Foster Care

For more than 15 years, Texas Appleseed has conducted in-depth research and analysis on Texas’ foster care system. Texas Appleseed advocates for youth in foster care by evaluating stakeholder representation and court processes to ensure reforms to court and legal systems benefit children who need safety and stability, as well as families who provide for their care. Our hope is that children in foster care are returned to safe home environments with their families, and if that is not possible, that they find permanent homes where they can thrive as quickly as possible.

We also work with partners to provide educational materials to youth in foster care and to help older foster youth make as smooth a transition as possible into adulthood.

Texas Appleseed is represented on the Texas Supreme Court’s Children’s Commission Collaborative Council and serves on the Child Protection Roundtable

Additionally, Texas Appleseed houses a separate team under the leadership of a court-appointed Co-Monitor. This team monitors the State’s efforts to come into compliance with Judge Janis Jack’s order in the federal lawsuit, M.D. vs Abbott.
