Texas Appleseed Visionary Society

The Visionary Society is a group of friends committed to ensuring justice for their fellow Texans through their generous gifts to our organization. Thanks to the philanthropic support of these visionaries, Texas Appleseed has the ability to respond quickly and effectively to emerging issues, as well as continue our important work on current issues affecting Texans.

Texas Appleseed is pleased to honor Jan Sanders for her tireless commitment to justice and equality for all. Jan was born and raised in Dallas. She and her late husband Judge Barefoot Sanders have four children, 10 grandchildren and one great grandson. Jan has been involved in the community and her church all of her adult life working for peace, justice and service to those less fortunate. She was a public school teacher and worked for the Dallas County Community College District. She worked for the cable company in its early years in Dallas, establishing the community’s use of the new technology, and she was one of the original organizers of what has become VolGo, the Dallas Volunteer Center. She volunteers as a reading tutor and has been a CASA volunteer. She helps register voters and stays involved in politics in order to keep our democracy vital and responsive. We hope you can join us in celebrating all that she has done for the Dallas community.
