Issue: An essential part of access to justice in our immigration system is that respondents receive proper notice of the case against them. People with mental disabilities face particular challenges. Texas Appleseed, with the support from pro bono partner Akin Sump Strauss Hauer and Feld, LLP, and with partner organizations, submitted an amicus brief to the Board of Immigration in support of proper notice and the need for legal representation for those who are not mentally competent.
